Originally from Merigomish, Nova Scotia, Marcel d'Entremont is currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Performance at McGill University. He also has a Graduate Artist Diploma from the same institution and a Masters of Music from the University of Toronto. A recipient of the Portia White award from the Nova Scotia Talent Trust, Marcel also received second place in the Hal Leonard International Vocal Competition and won 1st place in the Atlantic Young Artist Competition. In the summer of 2014 he represented Nova Scotia at the National Music Festival of Canada where he placed first in the vocal division and also won the grand award for overall best performer.
Marcel is a frequent soloist and has performed with the Seton Cantata Choir, Nova Voce Provincial Men’s Choir, South Shore Chorale, Nova Sinfonia, Maritime Concert Opera, Confederation Singers and P.E.I. Symphony, Cantabile Chamber Singers (Toronto), Annex Singers and Talisker Players (Toronto), and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and Grand Philharmonic Choir. For the past six years Marcel has been a featured soloist with the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, performing alongside musicians from around the world for audiences in the tens of thousands.
Marcel's recent projects include his participation in Verdi's opera Rigoletto with the Vancouver Opera (2015) as a member of the Yulanda M. Farris Young Artists Program and his performance in the roles of Edgardo in McGill Opera's production of Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor (2018), Il Podesta in Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera with Nova Scotia Opera (2018), and Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème directed by Saskatoon Opera (2018). He has also appeared on the Jeunesses Musicales du Canada tour singing the role of Romeo in their production of Gounod's Romeo and Juliet (2015) as well as the role of Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata (2016-2017). In addition, Marcel participated in the production of Postcard from Morocco at the University of Toronto (2015).
His world premiere was as a laureate of the Young Lyric Ambassadors program with the Rouen Opera, performing the role of Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni (2016). He was also an artist-in-residence at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance, a vocalist in residence at the National Arts Center's Young Artist Program and a member of the Art of Song Institute in association with Toronto Summer Music. Marcel has recently sung Britten's Serenade for tenor, horn and strings with the Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra (2018) and Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle with the McGill Concert Choir (2018). He has also sung the role of Tamino in Mozart's production of Die Zauberflöte with the McGill Opera (2019).
In November 2018, Marcel won the Wirth Vocal Prize at McGill University, a prize accompanied by Canada's largest music scholarship ($25,000). He will also have the chance to sing at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur on April 25, 2019 and at the Richard Bradshaw Theatre of the Four Seasons Center in Toronto next fall, thanks to this grant.
