Born in Montreal, Antonio Figueroa is a graduate of his home city university. He started his career when joining the lyrical Academy of Montreal Opera. He gained financial support from the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation for young Canadian opera singers as well as from the Canada Art Council. He has been rewarded several times, notably by the International Vocal Art Institute when he was granted the Silverman Price for his interpretation of Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
After his debut in Turn of the Screw and Il Mondo della Luna (Ecclitico), he sang in several opera productions such as Il Tabbaro, La Traviata and L’Étoile at Montreal Opera. He has also been entrusted with such key roles as Ferrando (Così fan Tutte), Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) or Gontran (Une Éducation manquée). His highly acclaimed first appearance in the part of Nadir (Les Pêcheurs de perles) at Avignon Opera paved his way for European theatres. He has then been invited to play Lorenzo in Fra Diavolo by Auber at Opéra Comique and in Liège, Fenton (Falstaff) in Lausanne, Mitridate in Bienne, Die tote Stadt and Ariadne auf Naxos at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse as well as Laërte (Hamlet), Nemorino (L’Elisir d’amore), Tebaldo (I Capuleti e Montecchi), Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) in a series of French theatres. He has developed his career in America by taking part in productions of Così fan tutte (Ferrando) at Pacific Opera, I Pagliacci (Beppe) in Québec and Ottawa, Die Zauberflöte (Tamino) in Ottawa, Les Pêcheurs de perles in Montréal, etc.
Highly appreciated in the baroque and in sacred music repertoire, Antonio Figueroa sings in such works as Messiah by Haendel, Requiem by Mozart, Magnificat and St. John Passion by Bach. He has besides been heard in concert with several Canadian orchestras, among which the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (in Rheingold and in Norma, under the direction of Kent Nagano) and Les Violons du Roy.
Recently, his cooperation with Peter Brook in Die Zauberflöte (Tamino) has given him the opportunity to appear worldwide on the most famous stages in Paris, Rome, Milan, Madrid, Brussels, Geneva, Quebec, New-York City and more). He has also gained applause in productions of The Tempest by Thomas Adès in Quebec, Falstaff in Quebec, Montreal and Lausanne, La Belle Hélène and Castor et Pollux at Le Capitole in Toulouse, Così Fan Tutte and Les Femmes Vengées in Washington DC, New York City and Versailles, Lakmé (Gérald) in Santiago, Chile, Armide by Lully under the direction of Christophe Rousset in Paris and Vienna, Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Pacific Opera Victoria and in Quebec City, Die Zauberflöte in Hawaii, Don Pasquale in Bienne, Mozart's Requiem at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Le Paradis perdu by Théodore Dubois with La Grande Écurie et la Chambre du Roy conducted by Jean-Claude Malgoire, Les Mousquetaires au couvent in Avignon, etc. He recorded recently Prima Donna by Rufus Wainwright with the BBC Symphony (CD Deutsche Grammophon), which he sang in concert in Athens, Lisbon and Hong-Kong, Avignon, at the Jazz Festival in Montréal and at the Philharmonie de Paris.
