Originally from Abitibi-Témiscamingue, mezzo-soprano Caroline Gélinas completed her training in classical singing at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with soprano Donna Brown and pianist Olivier Godin. She was artist-in-residence at the Atelier Lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal (2015-2017) and was named "Révélation de l'année Radio-Canada Classique 2017-2018".
Throughout her artistic career, she has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants including the Stingray Rising Star Award, the Hnatyshyn Foundation, the Jeunesses Musicales of Canada Foundation and the Art Song Foundation of Canada. Caroline has also been supported by the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation for Young Lyric Singers since 2014. In 2018, she won 2nd prize at the Récital-Concours International de Mélodies Françaises and received numerous rave reviews for her debut album Confidences on the ATMA Classique label.
On stage, she has distinguished herself in the role of Mercédès (Carmen) at the Opéra de Québec; Nada (Svadba) at the Opéra de Montréal; Siebel (Faust) with the Société d'Art Lyrique du Royaume. In 2016-2017, she conquered audiences in the title role of Carmen with the Orchestre Symphonique de Longueuil; Dorabella (Cosi Fan Tutte) with the Highlands Opera Studio; Die Schleppträgerin (Elektra) and Soeur Jeanne (Dialogue des Carmélites) at the Opéra de Montréal; as The Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors) with L'Atelier Lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal and the Orchestre des Jeunes Musiciens de Montréal. She has also sung the roles of Stéphano (Gounod's Roméo et Juliette) and Musette (Leoncavallo's La Bohème) with the Canadian Vocal Art Institute and the International Vocal Art Institute in New-York; Dorabella (Così fan tutte) and Ottone (L'Incoronazione di Poppea) with the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy; Dido (Dido and Aeneas) and Miss Todd (The Old Maid and the Thief) with the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal.
In concert, Caroline Gélinas knows how to create authentic atmospheres with her deep, sincere and colorful interpretations. She has the ability to captivate and move the audience in a natural way. She has sung at Salle Bourgie, with the Orchestre Symphonique de Laval, with the Orchestre de la Francophonie, with the Orchestre symphonique de Longueuil, at the Chapelle Historique du Bon-Pasteur and for the Société d'Art Vocal de Montréal. She has also sung at the Classica Festival, as part of the Lachine Concerts, as a guest classical artist at the Festivoix de Trois-Rivières and at the Festival d'Opéra de Québec. Caroline has been a guest soloist in Rachmaninov's Vespers with the Orchestre Métropolitain Chorus, Handel's Messiah, Rossini's Petite messe solennelle, Mozart's Requiem, Vivaldi's Gloria and Magnificat, and Bruckner's Mass in F minor. She has performed in numerous concerts with the Atelier lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal and in several concerts at the Salle de concert du Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal.
Caroline Gélinas recently presented Confidences, her first album for ATMA Classique. Olivier Godin accompanies her on piano in a program devoted to melodies by Maurice Ravel (Shéhérazade), Claude Debussy, (Trois Chansons de Bilitis), Robert Schumann (Gedichte der Königin Maria Stuart, op. 135) and Canadian composer Robert Fleming, with the cycle The Confessions Stones.
