Emmanuel Plasson has established himself as a leading ambassador of French music throughout his remarkable international career, spanning both the symphonic and operatic worlds.
Having held Artistic and Musical Director positions for Hawaii Opera Theater and Opera Company of Middlebury, he made his North American debut conducting the Royal Ballet Covent Garden on tour, including performances at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York which resulted in an invitation as Assistant Conductor at the Metropolitan Opera for the productions of Manon andCarmen.
As a result of his success, the invitations and engagements have been worldwide.
In North America, he conducted in Dallas, Minnesota, Orlando, Tulsa Opera – Pearlfishers and Faust; Boston Lyric Opera – Lucie de Lammermoor (French version); New York City Opera – La Périchole, L’Étoile and Les Pêcheurs de Perles; Opera Birmingham – Carmen and Samson et Dalilah; Kentucky Opera – Roméo et Julietteand Cendrillon; Minnesota Opera – Faust and Il Barbiere di Siviglia; Cincinnatti Opera – Les Contes d’Hoffmann; Lyric Opera of Kansas City – Carmen; Opéra de Montréal – Lakmé and Faust.
In Australasia, Maestro Plasson conducted several productions with Opera Australia – Manon, Werther, Faust, Orphée aux Enfers and La Traviata; as well as Carmen in New Zealand Opera, and Werther at the New National Theatre in Tokyo. His orchestral engagements included Adelaide, Melbourne, West Australian and Australia’s Queensland Symphony Orchestra, the National Ballet of Japan – Prokofiev’s Cinderella; and the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra.
In Europe, he conducted a production of Werther with the Royal Swedish Opera and a second one with the Royal Danish Opera; the Norwegian premiere of Chabrier’s L’Étoile with the Bergen Philharmonic and Den Nye Opera in a Mark Lamos production; at the Hamburg Staatsoper – Les Contes d’Hoffmann and La fille du Régiment; many productions at the Grand Théâtre d’Avignon; at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse – Cendrillon and Faust; at the Toulon Opera – Les Contes Hoffmann; at the Catania Opera, Sicily – Lucia di Lammermoor; and Puccini's Tosca in a tour of Southern France with the New York Opera Society.
His notable European orchestral engagements include Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre Régional de Cannes, Orchestre National de Bordeaux, Orquesta Sinfonica Portuguesa. He appeared with the Aalborg, Aarhus and Prague Symphony, the Nordwestdeutschen Philharmonie, the Brabants Orkest, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and has returned to the Royal Ballet atCovent Garden for several performances of a triple bill that included Stravinsky's Firebird and Bizet's Symphony inC for which he received great critical acclaim.
2022 marked a new milestone in his career when he performed at the Landesgartenschau Beelitz, Germany, with his own chamber orchestra: Orchester Voyager.
Emmanuel Plasson won the Donatella Flick International Conducting Competition in 1994 conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra in London which launched his UK debut.
He subsequently worked with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden, and Opera North in a double bill of Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges and Stravinsky’s Petrushka.
His discography includes recordings on the EMI and Dynamic labels.
